Avicenna – Batumi Medical University is actively implementing a modern teaching methodology – OSTE (Objectively Structured Teaching Encounter) – which is focused on improving the quality of medical education and strengthening the professional competencies of academic staff.

OSTE is an innovative teaching approach based on a standardized, simulation-based learning andassessment model. This format aims to develop the teaching and interpersonal communication skillsof not only students, but also academic/visiting staff. It makes possible to provide targeted andstructured feedback, which is an effective mechanism for improving the quality of teaching. TheOSTE methodology has already been used around the world and is widely regarded as one of themost successful tools for pedagogical growth.

The OSTE model is being implemented as part of the grant project "Implementation of OSTEStations in Georgian Higher Educational Institutions" led by Tbilisi State Medical University and theGeorgian-American University’s School of Medicine.
