Student Self-Government Elections at Avicenna - Batumi Medical University

Avicenna - Batumi Medical University announces the Student Self-Government elections.

All students with active status from all years of study enrolled in the University’s educational programs are eligible to participate in the elections.

The term of office of the Student Self-Government is 2 years, and the total number of members is defined as 2 students from each academic year.

Election Timeline

  • Registration of candidates and submission of election documents: April 20-24, 2026 (Documents must be submitted electronically via email: elections@abmu.edu.ge)
  • Pre-election campaign: April 27 - May 8, 2026
  • Submission of action plans: May 11-13, 2026
  • Election day: May 14, 2026, from 10:00 to 17:00
  • Announcement of results: May 18, 2026
  • Formation of the Student Self-Government and first meeting: No later than May 22, 2026

Candidate Registration Documentation

Candidates wishing to participate in the Student Self-Government elections must submit the following documents electronically (via email: elections@abmu.edu.ge) during the registration period:

  • Application for participation in the elections (see the attachment)
  • Copy of an identification document (ID card or passport)
  • Action plan describing the candidate’s proposed activities and vision for serving as a member of the Student Self-Government

Organizing Committee of the Elections

An Organizing Committee has been established to ensure the proper organization and information management of the election process.

Student members of the Organizing Committee are not eligible to run as candidates in the elections.

The Committee is responsible for:

  • Public announcement and dissemination of election-related information
  • Informing interested parties about the election process
  • Registration of candidates
  • Collection and secure storage of action plans
  • Organization of meetings with candidates
  • Ensuring access to candidates’ programs

Additionally, no later than one week before the election date, the Committee prepares the ballot papers and transfers them to the Election Commission.

Election Commission

An Election Commission has been established to conduct the elections, organize the voting process, and count the votes.

Student members of the Election Commission are not eligible to participate as candidates in the elections.

The Commission is responsible for:

  • Preparation of voter lists
  • Receipt and validation of ballot papers
  • Recording of completed ballots
  • Counting votes and determining winning candidates in accordance with established procedures

If necessary, the Commission responds to violations reported by observers.

Any interested student, as well as representatives of administrative and academic staff, may register as observers.

About the Student Self-Government

In accordance with its regulations, the Student Self-Government:

  • Ensures student participation in the governance of the higher education institution
  • Promotes the protection of student rights
  • Elects its representatives to relevant councils and advisory bodies
  • Develops proposals for improving the University’s governance system and quality of education
  • Performs other functions as defined by its regulations
